Viking Gas Range Recall: Which Models Are Affected

Viking has issued a recall on 15 different models of freestanding gas ranges, impacting over 60,000 units, in the U.S. and Canada.

According to the company, “The ranges’ ovens can turn on by themselves, posing a burn hazard to consumers.”

The defective ranges have already led to burn injuries and property damage claims from consumers.

Viking says 75 gas ranges have already been reported to turn on by themselves, three people have reported burns, and four property damage claims have been filed.

Models involved in the recall come in a variety of configurations, sizes and colors.

The recalled ranges were sold across the U.S. and Canada from July 2007 through June 2014 at stores including ABT, Ferguson, Morrison, Pacific Sales, PC Richard & Son and other stores nationwide. Prices ranged from $4,000 to $13,000.

Configurations part of the recall include all burners or burners with a griddle and/or grill.

Sizes vary from 30 inches (76 centimeters), 36 inches (91 centimeters), 48 inches (122 centimeters) and 60 inches (152 centimeters) wide to around 36 inches tall and 24.5 inches deep.

Colors include over 21 different options and finishes including stainless steel, black, and white.

Approximately 52,000 units of the recalled Viking freestanding ranges were sold in the U.S. and approximately 8300 in Canada.

Consumers should only search for the model and serial number when the range is not hot.”

Consumers with recalled models of the Viking gas ranges should contact Viking immediately. The company will schedule a free in-home repair. While waiting for repair, Viking can also advise consumers on precautions to take to avoid burn injuries.
