The Top 5 Las Vegas Museums & Attractions For History Lovers

With over 40 million visitors per year, Las Vegas is a hotspot for party-goers, gamblers, and thrill-seekers. But did you know the adult playground capital has a mellow side?

I make the six hour drive to Vegas twice a year, but not to check out the hottest clubs and casinos. I’m in love with the history exhibits. Here are my 5 favorite history-themed activities in Sin City:

1. Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition – Located inside the Luxor, you will be blown away by this attraction. Whether you know the real stories of the ill-fated ship, or are just a fan of the 1997 blockbuster movie, there is something for everyone. There are hundreds of artifacts recovered from the ship herself, and personal passenger stories to go with them. Enjoy an exact replica of the Grand Staircase, and a 15-ton piece of the ship. Put your hands on a real iceberg, and take a walk on the deck in the exact conditions as that fated night in 1912. General admission is $32.

2. The Auto Collections – Located at The Quad Resort & Casino, you will find 300 cars on exhibit. The best part: they’re all for sale. Here you can see Le Mans winners, JFK’s limousine, and others who have had an impact on automotive history. On certain days of the week you can also meet Jimmy Velvet and get an autograph. Adult admission is only $11.95.

3. Bodies…The Exhibition – Located in the Luxor next to the Titanic exhibit, you will find this eye-opening attraction. While highly educational and fascinating, it isn’t for the weak stomach. Here you will find 13 whole-body specimens and 260 organs. And yes, they’re real. There is also an option away from the main exhibit to see real embryos and fetuses at every stage of development. Check out the difference between a non-smoker’s lung, and a smoker’s. See a cancerous liver, and a brain that suffered a stroke. General admission is $32.

4. Mob Museum – Located inside an old Federal Courthouse, you can check out the history of the people who helped shape Vegas into the legendary town it is now: the mob. Here you can see the actual brick wall from the 1929 Valentine’s Day Massacre in Chicago. See items that belonged to all of the big players including Al Capone, Bugsy Siegel, Meyer Lansky, Frank Rosenthal, Tony Spilotro, and many others. You can also learn about the law enforcement that brought them down. Adult admission is $19.95.

5. Las Vegas Natural History Museum – Five miles North of The Strip, you will find this fascinating museum great for any age. Here you can see many fossils, a wooly mammoth tooth, and a shark jaw bone. Feed baby sharks and sting rays and check out the shark egg hatchery. In the Kid’s Corner, children can search for Nemo in the “Find Nemo” tank. Also check out the amazing 4,000 square foot “Treasures of Egypt”, and see King Tut’s golden throne, shrine, and chariots. Admission is only $10 for adults, and $5 for children ages 3-11.
