The Russo Brothers Will Direct Avengers: Infinity War

The Russo Brothers Will Direct Avengers: Infinity War

After being rumored as early as last year, Marvel Studios has finally announced that Joseph and Anthony Russo will be the directors of the upcoming two-part film event, Avengers: Infinity War.

This announcement officially confirms the involvement of the duo in the major movie event. Rumors surfaced that they would direct the film ever since the movie line-up for Phase 3 was revealed in late October, as well as Joss Whedon’s departure from any Marvel Cinematic Universe projects after Avengers: Age of Ultron.

The brothers have also collaborated on other MCU projects, including last year’s blockbuster hit Captain America: The Winter Soldier. They are currently working on the next installment, Captain America: Civil War, which will juggle the resolution of Bucky Barnes’s storyline with Steve Rogers’s clash against Tony Stark and the introduction of T’Challa, The Black Panther, played by Chadwick Boseman.

The Russo brothers have plenty of directing experience on television sitcoms, including Community and Arrested Development. With Winter Soldier, they proved to be capable of delivering successful action films, and have earned the trust of Marvel and fans with the upcoming films.

Not much is known about the premise of Avengers: Infinity War beyond featuring the long-awaited clash between the Avengers and the shadowy Mad Titan, Thanos, who plans on collecting the Infinity Stones, seen throughout the MCU films, to obtain ultimate power.

The first installment of Infinity War is scheduled for release on May 4, 2018.
