The Cadillac CT6 – The Weight Is Over

The Cadillac CT6 – The Weight Is Over

In recent years, cars like the CTS-V and ATS-V have shown Cadillac’s ability to blend high performance and luxury.

This was just a start for Cadillac.

They have now introduced the CT6, a luxury sedan that aims at reinventing not only the brand, but the whole segment.

The engineers apparently decided that lightness was the key ingredient when developing the CT6.

This idea has resulted in a car the size of a BMW 7-series, but weighing less than a 5-series. Through extensive use of lightweight materials like aluminum, the CT6 weighs less than 1700 kg (3700 lbs).

The result of such leanness will be agility. Add the stiffness inherent of aluminum, and this car should handle very well.

The lack of weight has allowed Cadillac to use a very small engine.

In fact, the base engine is a 2.0L turbocharged inline 4 cylinder that makes 265 hp, which is less than a Honda Accord V6 produces.

The next engine in the lineup is a naturally aspirated 3.6L V6, which should develop around 335 hp.

The most powerful engine available is a twin-turbo 3.0L V6 that creates approximately 400 hp.

All the engines will be married to 8-speed automatics. The twin-turbo receives a beefier transmission due to the 400 lb-ft of torque the engine develops.

Cadillac has added some technology to take the worry away from daily tasks such as parking, bad weather handling and bumper to bumper commutes.

The CT6 uses a 360 degree view camera system to aid drivers with parking.

An active, on demand, AWD system uses a variable clutch to redirect torque from the rear wheels to the front wheels, giving a reassured feeling while driving in inclement weather.

The auto vehicle-hold system can be initiated by the driver to prevent the vehicle from creeping forward or rolling backwards without the driver being required to keep their foot on the brake pedal. Cadillac says this will help reduce driver fatigue.

As expected, the inside of the Caddy gives off a very luxurious vibe.

The space is wrapped in the best materials; carbon fiber, exotic woods, and premium leather, are used throughout.

The seats have five massage settings; the rear seats recline and will even pivot if you tick the right box on the order sheet.

Front seat passengers have use of a 10.2-inch interface screen with 1280 x 720 HD resolution and a console mounted touchpad.

In the back, passengers have their own 10-inch screens that are mounted in the front seat backs.

Also, all the occupants can control their individual climates. The CT6 has 2 full-HVAC systems, making it possible for every passenger to set the right temperature and airflow level for their comfort.

The CT6 is certainly nice to look at. The long, low, athletic profile and bold new face are proof that Cadillac is back and here to stay.
