The 2015 Ford Expedition, Utility For The Larger Family

The Ford Expedition has received a refresh for 2015. The full size utility vehicle is available in two versions; regular or extended.

The regular version has a wheelbase of 119 inches, seats eight passengers in three rows and can offer 108.3 cubic feet of cargo space. With all the seats occupied there is still 18.6 cubic feet of cargo space.

The extended version grows to a wheelbase of 131 inches, seating remains the same but cargo space increases to 130.8 cubic feet. When all the seats are in use the extended version offers a very useful 42.6 cubic feet for cargo behind the rear seats.

Thanks to the new independent rear suspension the cargo area has a lower load height and the rear seats can now fold flat easily.

Pulling this immense vehicle down the road is the job of the EcoBoost 3.5L V6 found in the new F-150. This high output engine makes a healthy 365 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque. This equates to a maximum towing capability of 9,200lbs.

The engine uses a 6-speed automatic transmission that features gear selection via a toggle switch on the gear selector.

This combination is so good that it will be the only choice for the 2015 Expedition. All you need to decide is whether you prefer rear wheel or all-wheel drive.

Controlling the mass and providing a comfortable and stable ride will be a continually controlled dampening suspension. The Expedition is the first Ford to make use of this technology.

An electric power-steering system is said to offer increased feel at highway speeds while making low speed maneuvering easier than the previous hydraulic system.

This is Ford’s flagship, the biggest and most luxurious utility it has available. As such the 2015 model has been stuffed with sound deadening materials. Every cavity large enough has been filled up, and new seals have netted a result of a 20% reduction in wind noise.

Being the high end model means customers expect every technology Ford has available; and the Expedition provides them all. It has all the driver aids, such as a blind spot information system with cross-traffic alert. Parking a vehicle this large can be nerve racking, but the Expedition takes away the worry with its rear view camera and parking sensors.

The driver has 3 information screens. Two are in the gauge cluster. They are both 4.2 inches and full colour. The third is a touchscreen located in the center stack and is 8 inches. It features the MYFord Touch programming with full connectivity.

The exterior has been altered somewhat, now with a new front fascia that has optional projector headlights and LED fog lights. The new face is handsome and a big improvement over the outgoing model.

The 2015 Ford Expedition comes in 2 versions that can be had in 4 flavours; XLT, Limited, Platinum, and King Ranch. Each offers a unique personality and level of utility. Pricing starts at $43,845.00 (US dollars).
