Suicide Squad (2016) is ‘Dirty Dozen with Super Villains’

Director David Ayer says Suicide Squad is ‘Dirty Dozen with super villains.’

Last week, DC studios revealed their upcoming slate of films planned from 2016 to 2020. Among the list of announced films, which included Wonder Woman (2017) and Aquaman (2018), was Suicide Squad, with acclaimed director David Ayer attached.

Ayer, who helmed the gritty police drama End of Watch (2012), and this year’s Fury, spoke with Empire about his upcoming super villain team-up feature.

“I can say that it’s a Dirty Dozen with super villains… Then I can ask the question, ‘Does a movie really need good guys?’ I love the passion [comic-book fans] have for these characters and these worlds… The mythology that these characters represent – the idea of them as fallen gods on Earth – is intriguing to me. I can’t wait to start exploring those corridors.”

Ayer’s previous projects have all had a gritty vision, which if applied to his 2016 exploration into ‘fallen gods on Earth,’ will work in harmony with David Goyer and Zack Snyder’s grounded DC cinematic universe.

Suicide Squad is due to be released on August 5, 2016, and will be the first DC film to hit theaters after Batman v Superman. Reports claim that Will Smith, Ryan Gosling, Margot Robbie and Tom Hardy are being sort for the lead roles.
