Straight Talk’s Bring Your Own Phone + 5GB of 4G LTE Offer- Is It Worth It?

Straight Talk’s Bring Your Own Phone + 5GB of 4G LTE Offer- Is It Worth It?

Straight Talk Wireless is offering a sweet deal to potential customers with their Bring Your Own Phone (BYOP) and get 5GB of 4G LTE data plan- but is it worth it?

Well, maybe. It depends on what you’re looking for.

This new deal, which is currently available on the Straight Talk website and through Walmart , gives consumers who want a no-contract phone a viable option, with some limitations.

With the BYOP part of the offer Straight Talk makes it easier for you to switch over, and they also give you a more affordable way to get a no-contract plan since you can use your own phone in most instances.

For those interested, you need a GSM or CDMA phone to take advantage of this deal;  GSM users may need to purchase a SIM Card.

You can check to see if you will need to purchase one and to make sure your phone is compatible using their BYOP Helper.

If your phone is compatible, you then select a plan (either the $45 or $60 no-contract plan), then activate the phone.

The phone can be activated via an email code, so there is no waiting.

Straight Talk is compatible with a large number of smartphones, so this a good choice if you have an up-to-date smartphone you want to still use (or just don’t want to spend money on a new phone).

Now comes the not so good part of the offer: the 5GB of 4 LTE data, which is only available for those who sing-up using BYOP.

The offer is good on any 30-day, $45 Unlimited Talk Nationwide Plan or higher and the 4G LTE speed is good for the first 5GB of data.

Sounds good right?  Yes, except that  after the 5GB are up for the month speeds can drop to as low as 64 KBPS.

For those who stream a lot of video or use a lot of applications, this can cause lots of headaches as some apps may not work right or videos may not play.

So if you use a lot of data (or have a kid who does), this plan may not be worth it in the long run if you can’t use your phone when you need it- the way you want it.

Overall, this plan has a lot to offer, but for those who conduct business from their phone or are into videos and games, this isn’t the best choice for your money.
