Splatoon Now Available| Wii U Bundle Deluxe Edition Only @ Best Buy

Move over Call of Duty, there’s a new online shooter game from Nintendo called Splatoon and it could be the game of the year.

The game, which is getting rave reviews everywhere, is now available exclusively for the Wii U console.

* Only @Best Buy:  get the Exclusive Deluxe Edition Bundle (black console, 32 GB) for $299.99; the game will sell for $59.99.

Game Stop, Target and other retailers will also be selling the game for $59.99.

For those of you who don’t know Splatoon is an unique, fun game and best of all you don’t have to be a Navy Seal-in training to play it well or help your team.

Think of it like a psychedelic Battlefield or Call of Duty, but instead of soldiers there are strange creatures(oh, and  minus the blood or the need to have a physics degree to play).

For those of you who love COD and other such games let me assure you that while this game has a friendly, family style feel to it there is plenty here for you to get excited about and it WILL challenge you.

In Splatoon you team up with other players online to fight other teams in various battle arenas.

Sounds like every other game right?  Well it would be, except in this game there are creatures called inklings that are part human, part squid and use colorful globs of ink to blast their opponents in colorful goo.

Each team has their own color and your team wins by covering the playing field with more ink than the opposing team.

You can switch between human and squid, which changes the feel of the game: as a human it feels like a traditional shooter game but as a squid you can glide across surfaces like your skating (hit the other teams ink and it’s like being stuck in glue).

There are also some great in-game features, like the ability to create “roads” to get from one point to another and different unique weapons like bombs, ink-tornado-flinging bazookas, mongo paint-rollers and mines.

Splatoon has  several game modes, including off-line story mode (think Mario or Zelda), but it is the online experience that really makes this game.

The only downside is you can’t cancel when your waiting for a match to start (if you want out you have to reboot) and there is no chat (which I like because that means no trash talk).

Splatoon has a look all its own: yes, it is reminiscent of other Nintendo games thanks to it’s colorful atmosphere, but it is distinctly different thanks to the style of game play, putting it in a class by itself.

Will you be trying out Splatoon?  Let us know what you think of the game below.
