In reports coming in from NPR, the New York Times and Huffington Post, it is reported that Gabrielle Giffords, the Democratic Representative from Arizona, has been shot in the head during one of her “Congress on Your Corner” gatherings with her constituents.
In an attempt to have more contact with the public and hear their needs, she was holding her first talk, outside the Safeway grocery store in northwest Tuscon, when a gunman ran up and started shooting indiscriminately.
The attack occurred while Giffords, who was elected to Arizona’s 8th District in 2009 was speaking with a couple. The attacker was reportedly “tackled by a bystander and taken into custody” according to the latest reports. There is no news on who the gunman was or why he attacked Giffords.
