Shark Week 2015: Live Online Stream, Complete TV Schedule, Preview & More

Cue the theme music from ‘Jaws’ because Shark Week on the Discovery Channel is back starting this Sunday, July 5, and running through Sunday, July 12.

The week-long event will feature different prime-time specials starting at 8 P.M. (EST) every night, along with an online “Sharkopedia” and  the Shark After Dark late-night specials.

The Sharkopedia is a comprehensive guide to sharks that fans can access; during each show shark facts will appear at the bottom of viewer’s screens and they can go to the Sharkopedia to find out more.

Shark After Dark will be hosted by Eli Roth each night  following the prime-time shows and will feature celebrity guests, shark fans and shark experts- as well as highlights from the shows.

Free Live Streaming: Fans looking to stream all the week’s events have a few options, but they are limited:

Hulu Plus will give access to all of Shark Week in real time and offers a 1-week free trial, so you can watch for free (you can cancel before you have to pay); a subscription costs $7.99 a month.

Amazon Instant Video will have the episodes for $1.99 each, with the Ninja Shark Episode for free, but the episodes may not be available until the next day or later.

Fans can go to Discovery.com or use the Discovery app for iOS and Android for free live streaming.  The Discovery site has several full episodes available (some may not be from this year), along with live reef cams and other fun stuff.

You can also check with your cable provider, which may have an app to stream live for free from any device; many companies, like Comcast and Time Warner Cable, have this option.

TV Schedule:  Here is the week’s line-up, along with a brief description of each show:

Shark Trek- Sunday, July 5 at 8/7c.

Why is there is an influx in great white shark sightings in Florida? Greg Skomal and a team of engineers will try to find out! Discovery is calling it the biggest exploration yet into Atlantic great whites.

Island of the Mega Shark- Sunday, July 5 at 9/8c.

This special centers on photographing great whites in Guadalupe Island, Mexico.

Monster Mako- Sunday, July 5 at 10/9c.

This special features teams with competing goals: one is hoping to record the speed of the mako (the fastest shark in the ocean), and the other is hoping to prove that the mako is an ambush predator.

Return of the Great White Serial Killer- Monday, July 6 at 9/8c.

Filmed in Oct. 2014 this special sets out to find answers about a great white shark that has struck Surf Beach, California every two years in October.

Alien Sharks: Close Encounters- Monday, July 6 at 10/9c.

“Alien sharks” are explored in this special that features three expeditions that set out to learn more about special sharks that glow in the dark.

Bride of Jaws- Tuesday, July 7 at 9/8c.

Three experts set out on a journey to find an 18-foot female great white shark with the moniker “Joan of Shark” her in Western Australia.

Tiiburones: Sharks of Cuba- July 7 at 10/9c.

A full 70 years after the record-breaking great white shark “The Cuban” was recorded, a special team sets out in Cuba to find a population of great white sharks.

Super Predator- Wednesday, July 8 at 9/8c.

Filmmaker Dave Riggs explores an Australian coast searching for a predator that ate a 9-foot great white shark.

Ninja Sharks- Wednesday, July 8 at 10/9c.

This special centers on six very predatory sharks who are very good at what they do- Discovery calls them some of the deadliest creatures on the planet.

Shark Planet- Thursday, July 9 at 9/8c.

Shark Planet takes a more general take on the exploration of sharks. This special presents new information discovered from around the world about sharks.

Sharks of the Shadowland- Friday, July 10 at 9/8c.

Jenny Oliver, who survived a shark attack, is joined by researcher Kina Scollay in studying killer sharks bent on attacking government divers in New Zealand.

Shark Clans- Friday, July 10 at 10/9c.

Rodney Fox, another shark attack survivor, teams up with others a full 50 years later to help protect the ocean’s creatures from man.

Sharksanity 2- Saturday, July 11 at 9/8c.

This roundup special presents all the best moments from Shark Week and reveals what moments the audience voted as the greatest in Shark Week history

Shark Island- Sunday, July 12 at 8/7c.

Shark Week concludes with Shark Island, in which scientists try to figure out the reasoning behind the multitude of attacks at Reunion Island, which has become the most dangerous place in the world as far as shark attacks.
