PS4 Firmware 1.70 Coming April 30th: Sharing And Pre-Loading

PS4 Firmware 1.70 Coming April 30th: Sharing And Pre LoadingPlayStation Europe has officially confirmed that PlayStation 4’s firmware 1.70 will go live as soon as April 30th.

The update was planned to come out sometime this month, and it looks like the hardware maker has decided to wait until the very last day to unleash their hard work on the world.

For those that haven’t been following, firmware 1.70 is the first major firmware update to Sony’s PS4 since the system launched this November.

As far as features are concerned, there’s a new video editing suite called ShareFactory, which allows users to trim their shared gameplay clips, and add various effects and transitions.

If you want to upload a clip to a video service that’s not currently supported by PS4 (like YouTube) you’ll also have the ability to put your videos on a USB stick and upload them yourself.

Related to sharing, HDCP DRM can be disabled with this firmware. which allows those with external capture kits to make gameplay clips that way instead.

1.70’s option to pre-load games is very important to note too. This means any digitally preorderdered games can be downloaded a few days ahead of time, and started at 12:01 on release day.

In previous interviews, Sony officials have maintained that the 1.70 update will include “something for everyone.”

Keep your PS4 in standby on April 30th, and the update will be downloaded at some point during the day.

Are these features enough to get you excited, or were you hoping for something more?
