PlayStation 4 Sales Hit 1 Million in 24 Hours

PS4
PS4 debuted in stores across North America on November 15th.

Over the weekend, Sony announced that the new PlayStation 4 video game console had sold more than 1 million units throughout the United States and Canada within its first 24 hours of sales.

That’s the fastest selling start of any Sony PlayStation system.

This comes as good news to Sony Computer Entertainment president Andrew House.

In September, House indicated that Sony hopes to sell 5 million units by March 2014.

PS4 debuted in stores across North America on November 15th.

The U.S. retail price for the new video game console is currently $399.

Since sales of the system began, there have been a number of complaints regarding defective units.

While some owners reported that their new system would not output video, others reported their system containing a blinking “blue light of death.”

The light could indicate the possibility of TV compatibility problems, or issues with the system’s power supply, hard drive or hardware.

Sony has since released a statement addressing the issue of defective units.

“A handful of people have reported issues with their PlayStation 4 systems. This is within our expectations for a new product introduction, and the vast majority of PS4 feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. We are closely monitoring for additional reports, but we think these are isolated incidents and are on track for a great launch.”

Sony’s PS4 will be released in Europe and Latin America on November 29th and in Japan on February 22, 2014.
