Playboy Will No Longer Feature Nudity In Its Magazine

Playboy Will No Longer Feature Nudity In Its Magazine

Since the 1950’s, young men everywhere have had their first glimpse of the female form in the pages of Playboy magazine.

Over the decades numerous aspiring women have graced its pages viewing it as a stepping stone to a career in acting or modeling.

Throughout it many years it has been heralded as a promoter of women’s freedom, and raked over the coals as a peddler of smut. Whatever your view, things are about to change.

According to an article in the New York Times, the iconic magazine has decided to make a very bold and some will argue long overdue move to no longer publish photos of naked women.

The old excuse of “I only read it for the articles”, will be put to the test in 2016 when the new format, something more akin to Maxim, arrives on shelves.

The question is will this decision harm the brand?

Actually, it will likely help!

Back in 1975 the magazine had a circulation of 5.6 million, today it has dropped to around 800,000.

This plummet is largely due to the availability of free pornography on the internet.

By rebranding themselves and no longer being restricted to adult purchase, Playboy magazine could become a contender in the style/lifestyle market.

In an era where female nudity is no longer taboo and most people no longer by printed magazines, what choice did they have.

What do you think, is this a wise move?
