Pirates of the Caribbean 5 to Film in Australia

Word has arrived that the 5th Pirates of the Caribbean film will be shot in Queensland, Australia.

Queensland Minister for the Arts Ian Walker, revealed today that Walt Disney had decided to shoot the film at Village Roadshow Studios, on the Gold Coast.

State Senator George Brandis commented on the announcement saying,

The fifth film in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise will be the largest international feature film ever to shoot in Australia, and will focus the world’s attention on Australia as a leading film destination.

The Disney film will bring in about $100 million to Queensland and create thousands of jobs for the local community.

Over the years several high profile films have filmed in Queensland, most recently Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson’s disaster flick San Andreas, and the Angelina Jolie directed biographical war pic Unbroken.

Mr Walker believes that a united effort between the Australian and state governments, and the strong creative and financial argument that was put forward, ensured Queensland would be the most attractive commercial option.

With pre-production expected to start within the next two weeks, principal photography isn’t expected to begin until February next year.

Jerry Bruckheimer is set to produce, with Joachim Ronning and Espend Sandberg directing. Johnny Depp will return as Captain Jack Sparrow, with an expected release date of July 7th 2017
