The interview is split into two nights, first night being Thursday with the second part airing on Friday night at the same time.
According to several sources, Lance Armstrong will come clean about his doping during his years on the cycling circuit.
The move comes as Oprah is trying to breathe life into her foundering network. Ever the showman, Oprah has been promoting the interview like crazy and it’s getting a lot of attention. It will be a good financial moment for her network, but only time will tell if the event will bring lasting health to OWN.
The interview with Oprah on Thursday is also reported to be a strategic move by Armstrong so he can start competing again.
Even with U.S. sanctions lifted, he would still be banned for another eight years from professional competitions, instead of a lifetime. He still wouldn’t be allowed to enter competitive cycling ever again, but he is reportedly interested in marathons. In eight years he’ll be just short of 50, not exactly the prime age to start competing against athletes half his age.
After the interview, maybe it will be more apparent why he’s admitting to what he’s lied about for half his lifetime. He won’t be able to wash away the lives he’s ruined with his lies and legal maneuvers. Not everyone will forgive him his transgressions. In fact, he may be surprised by how many don’t.
Many things will be revealed, but probably not everything. He’s lied for so long, does it seem likely he will be completely truthful now?
The Lance Armstrong interview with Oprah starts at 9pm ET/PT Thursday on OWN (Oprah Winfrey Network) and will be available streaming live online at Oprah.com.
