Oculus VR’s Release Gets Better With Facebook

oculus facebook logoYesterday it was reported that Facebook had purchased Oculus VR for about $2 billion. Despite initial industry shock, recent interviews suggest that current supporters need not worry about the future of the Oculus Rift VR headset.

When speaking to IGN, company personnel expressed extreme faith in their new partnership with Facebook.

Thanks to the social network’s massive revenue pool , it’s been said that Oculus will be able to make a better quality product at a lower price point than originally planned.

It’s also suggested that even the most remote future plans of Oculus VR’s dreams have suddenly become a real world possibility.

This good news passes down to Rift’s release date as well. Even though the takeover was somewhat unexpected, the final retail headset is still on the same release schedule as it was prior to the sale.

Regardless of these soothing statements, some former Oculus developers have expressed strong distaste for the new union. As the creator of Minecraft, Notch Persson has already cancelled porting his wildly popular game to the virtual reality hardware.

Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg on the other hand, has praised his VR initiative as something that can change the way we play games, and eventually, lead our lives.

“Imagine enjoying a court side seat at a game, studying in a classroom of students and teachers all over the world or consulting with a doctor face-to-face — just by putting on goggles in your home,” he speculates.
