Amazon announced today that their new Kindle HDX 7″ wifi tablet is now available for immediate shipping.
The 7″ version is the smaller of the Kindle HDX’s that will be available to holiday shoppers.
Preorders are currently being taken for the 8.9″ tablet and the 4G versions of both tablets.
I’ve got a slew of dates, prices and options for you here. Let’s break it down by model…
The Kindle HDX 7″ (Wifi & 4G)
First of all there’s the 7″ HDX with wifi. This is the one that’s available for ordering and shipping as of today.
It is the lowest priced version. The 7″ HDX with wifi starts at $229 and comes with 16GB of storage space. It is also available with 32GB of storage for $269, or 64GB of storage for $309.
The 7″ HDX with 4G is currently available for preordering and is listed with a November 14 shipping date.
The 4G versions will cost $329 (16gb), $369 (32gb), $409 (64gb).
The prices above are for HDX tablets that include “special offers” (advertising). Getting an HDX without “special offers” adds $15 to the price.
The Kindle HDX 8.9″ (Wifi & 4G)
The 8.9″ HDX with wifi is available for preordering with a November 7th shipping date.
The lowest priced 8.9″ model costs $379 and includes 16GB of storage. The model with 32GB of storage costs $429, the 64GB model is $479.
The 8.9″ HDX with 4G is available for preordering with a December 10th shipping date.
It’s priced at $479 with 16GB of storage, $529 with 32GB, and $579 with 64GB.
Like with the 7″ version, these prices are for the HDX with “special offers”. Add $15 for the version without special offers.
I should point out here that the price on the “old” Kindle Fire HD has dropped to as low as $139. Not a bad deal for a tablet that’s not exactly outdated.
The Kindle HDX tablets are quite a step up from the Kindle Fire though. They include Amazon’s new Fire OS 3.0 (codename: Mojito), an upgraded processor and graphics card, a 323 ppi (339 ppi on the 8.9″) display, and the new Mayday button.
The Mayday button can be used for calling for immediate, live, support for the tablet. That’s definitely a groundbreaker in the industry. Mayday will be available 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year, and Amazon says they have a 15 seconds as the target for an average response time.
