Netflix Prepares for Expansion

Netflix Prepares for Expansion

Netflix has announced plans to expand its services to six European countries: Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Belgium, and Luxembourg before the end of the year.  This is a continuation of previous expansions in 2012 and 2013 in the UK, Ireland, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, and the Netherlands.

The expansion allows streaming of partnered Netflix series and well as Netflix original series.

Details such as “pricing, programming, and supported devices will be available at a later date”.  The streaming service’s pricing was raised last month from $7.99 per month to $8.99 per month.  However, current Netflix customers were excluded from the price increase for the next two years.

This expansion is thought to be a great thing for the streaming corporation, allowing a significant amount of growth.  According to the Wall Street Journal, “Netflix is betting it can manage costs abroad in the long term and generate healthy profits… Germany and France are the fourth- and sixth-largest broadband markets in the world”.

For those of you in the effected countries, are you going to subscribe?  Do you think this expansion will be good for Netflix?  Let us know your thoughts!
