Microsoft Announces July 29 Windows 10 Launch

Microsoft just announced that Windows 10, the company’s next major update to the nearly ubiquitous PC operating system, will launch July 29. Microsoft is very eager for Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 users to upgrade as soon as possible.

The update will include many new features, including enhanced PC-phone-tablet integration support and a greater consistency between the appearance and usability of apps across all types of Windows devices.

Windows 10 will also add built-in Cortana support to it’s native Web browser. Cortana is Microsoft’s voice-activated personal assistant, similar to Siri on the Apple iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.

The July 29 Windows 10 launch is intended to be a very big deal for Windows users. Microsoft is offering users who are currently running Windows 7, 8 or 8.1 a chance to upgrade to Windows 10 for free. The free update can be downloaded and installed either online or at one of several major electronics retail stores, including Best Buy, Stables and Wal-Mart. These retailers can assist users in both upgrading their current machines and in safe data transfer for those looking to buy a brand-new computer will Windows 10 pre-installed.

The Windows 10 free upgrade program will be available for one year following launch day.

Questions or comments about making the upgrade to Windows 10 can be left in the box below.

Update: A new report by Bloomberg today announced that there will be no new computers available in stores on July 29 already running Windows 10. According to the report, Windows 10-pre-installed hardware will be available”very soon after” the July 29 launch, but not in fact on the day.
