Michael Phelps, Missy Franklin, Basketballers Inspire At Olympics

Michael Phelps may have competed in his final Olympics at the London Games, but oh what a way to go out!

Phelps was spectacular again, finishing his Olympic career with 18 gold medals and 22 medals in all.  His total bulged after collecting four golds and a pair of silver in London.

Franklin, a 17-year-old high school senior wasn’t too bad either, racking up four golds and five medals in all. Must be pretty cool to be her about now with a life full of options … no wonder Missy Franklin is all smiles.

“For right now, I still believe that college is what’s going to make me the happiest girl,” Franklin said at a U.S. Olympic Committee news conference for the London Games, which wrap up Sunday. “I know what my parents and my friends and my teammates and my coaches want. But we’ll definitely have to sit down and talk about that.”

While Franklin is getting used to the feeling of medals dangling for the first time, it was no less thrilling for the U.S. men’s and women’s basketball teams to show they are the best in the world again, too.

All the U.S. athletes deserve our praise for an Olympics well played!
