Manhattanhenge 2015, May 29th & 30th: Where To Get The Best Views

Manhattanhenge, that magical event where the sun perfectly aligns with the city’s grid (aka NYC’s own personal Stonehenge) will take place this Friday, May 29th, and Saturday, May 30th.

This occurrence, which was first noted by Neil deGrasse Tyson, happens four times a year (twice with a half sun and twice with a full sun) and each time the sun lights up both the north and south sides of every cross street of the borough’s grid.

Friday’s event will be a half sun at 8:12 P.M. (EST) and Saturday’s will be a full sun, also at 8:12 P.M. (EST).

According to the Museum of Natural History you should: “”Position yourself as far east in Manhattan as possible. But ensure that when you look west across the avenues you can still see New Jersey. ”

Prime locations to watch from include:  14th, 23rd, 34th. 42nd and 57th streets, along with several streets adjacent to them; The Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building are  ideal as well and make 34th and 42nd streets especially breathtaking.

They also recommend getting their 30 minutes before the time indicated; if it is cloudy don’t bother wasting a trip.

Will you be going to view Manhattanhenge in person?  Share your pics with us if you do below and share this story so everyone can watch this spectacular event.
