An official soundtrack to the first season of The Legend of Korra will arrive on July 16th, according to series co-creator Bryan Konietzo.
Distributed by Nickelodeon and Legacy Records, The Legend of Korra: Original Music From Book One, will feature 26 tracks by the show’s composer, Jeremy Zuckerman.
A preview of one of the show’s dramatic melodies, “Republic City Under Attack,” is available for listening at The Wall Street Journal.
Konietzo, who painted the cover art for The Legend of Korra album, expressed his excitement over the upcoming release on his Tumblr:
”I can’t begin to summarize the 9-year struggle we have endured to get any sort of a soundtrack released. We love Jeremy’s music deeply, and we know the fans do too, so it has been an incredibly frustrating wait and battle to make this a reality. All of the online petitions for an Avatar: The Last Airbender soundtrack were an amazing show of support from thousands of people and greatly appreciated, but for so long it seemed to be in vain as the idea of a soundtrack was blocked at a bureaucratic impasse.
Gratefully, thanks to the tireless efforts of some key people inside and outside of Nickelodeon who championed this project for many years, it is finally happening.”
While Konietzo admits fans originally petitioned for a soundtrack of Avatar: The Last Airbender, he says the success of The Legend of Korra soundtrack could potentially lead to a musical release for the original series.
The Legend of Korra: Original Music From Book One is available for pre-order and will be released in physical and digital copies.
As for the actual show – we are not likely to see season one of The Legend of Korra, (Book One:Air) on Netflix. The streaming company let its contract with Nickelodeon’s owner, Viacom, expire earlier this year.
However, a DVD of the first season is set for release on July 9. Over at Amazon it’s available for pre-ordering for just under $14.
And when will Legend of Korra season 2 (Book 2:Spirits) will be released? All we have at this point is “later this year.” No firm date has been released by Nickelodeon.
