Amazon is having a Father’s Day special on Kindle e-readers.
Unfortunately, it’s not a big, fat, discount on the Kindles themselves. That would be a great Father’s Day gift indeed. But instead, it’s free 2-day shipping. There is not much time remaining though – just two hours from publication time. Orders placed today by 7:30pm Eastern US Time, 4:30pm Pacific, come with an Amazon guaranteed delivery date of June 17 , 2011.
Amazon also offers 1-day shipping. If ordered on Friday, the 1-day shipping should get there by Saturday, June 17th, as well. At this point the 1-day shipping is not free. To our location, it comes out to just over $18. If Amazon drops that price or offers free one day shipping after the two day shipping time expires, we will update you here at Sure Start News.
The Amazon Kindle e-reader comes in five different ‘flavors’. The least expensive is the Kindle, 6 inch, Wi-Fi version with ‘Special Offers’. Basically, Special Offers are advertisments on the screen savers and bottom of the home page. Special Offers are not shown on the book itself during reading. This Kindle is available for $114. The same Wi-Fi Kindle is available without Special Offers for $139.
The next Kindle is the Kindle 3G, in which downloads can be done through Wi-Fi or wirelessly (through the cell phone network) to most locations in the US. It also has a 6 inch screen. The Special Offers version is $164, and without Special Offers it is $189. There is no monthly charge for the Kindle’s 3G access.
Amazon also offers a large screen version. The Kindle DX. This one is also both 3G and Wi-Fi capable, and has a 9.7 inch screen. It costs $379.
