Kate Winslet Escapes House Fire At Richard Branson’s Mansion [Video]

Kate Winslet, Oscar-winning actress and “Titanic” star, escaped a bizarre fire early Monday morning at Richard Branson’s Caribbean mansion.

According to reports, an estimated 20 people, including Winslet and her children, were staying in Branson’s eight-bedroom home on his private isle in the British Virgin Island.

The Great House fire began after it was struck by lightning during a tropical storm at 4 a.m.

In a heroic maneuver, Winslet carried Branson’s 90-year-old mother, Eve Branson, from the flame engulfed house.

Branson recalls Winslet’s actions: “My mum is 90 and can walk but it was more just to speed the process up than anything else. But anyway, she was great. She swept her up into her arms and got them out of the house as fast as possible.”

Branson states that his house has been “completely destroyed” by the blaze. “My office was based in the house, and I have lost thousands of photographs, which is very sad,” Branson said.

Winslet’s described the event to Branson as: “It’s like being in a film set where you’re waiting for the words ‘cut’ but they just don’t come. So it was quite surreal for her to be in a real-life situation.”
