Karen Gillan Shaves Her Head For Guardians of the Galaxy

Doctor Who’s former stunning red-headed star, Karen Gillan is no longer sporting her signature red locks.

She shaved her hair for a role in a movie she is filming, and just showed off her new do, or lack thereof, at San Diego’s Comic Con.

She appeared the first day in a red wig and didn’t reveal her change in style until the middle of the Marvel panel. At the panel, she was asked, “Isn’t Nebula bald?”

Gillan answered, “Yeah, she is. And I might have done something a little bit crazy,” before taking the wig off, and lobbing it into the whooping crowd.

She later said, “It’s liberating. I think everyone here should shave their heads.”

The comments of fans online seem to be mixed. Some think she is just as beautiful as ever, and just might take her advice. Some applaud her for stepping out of traditional expectations of beauty, while others exclaim that they wouldn’t shave their heads for a million dollars.

Considering she made the change for her job, that is sort of what it comes down to.

Her bare head is for her role in Marvel’s 2014 movie, Guardians of the Galaxy, in which she will be playing Nebula, a character who traditionally has long dark hair with bangs. So why did she shave her head, rather than dye it?

Well, there are also images of Nebula bald with an eye patch, looking every bit the pirate she is. I guess we’ll have to wait to see her costume for the movie, which also stars Zoe Saldana and Chris Pratt, among others.

What do you think of her new style?

Hi, I'm Kaila. I just finished my sophomore year of college, studying English, journalism and communications. I love books and TV shows almost as much as coffee and chocolate, as well as a little shopping here and there when I have the money for it.
