Jupiter Ascending Release Date Pushed Back

Jupiter Ascending Release Date Pushed Back

In a surprising move announced by Warner Bros. on Tuesday, the release date of Jupiter Ascending has been pushed back from July 18 to February 6, 2015.

It’s unusual for a movie’s release to be pushed back so much this close to it’s scheduled release, but the studio is saying that directors Andy and Lana Wachowski need more time to complete work on more than 2,000 special effects being used in the film.

Domestic distribution chief Dan Fellman explained, “With the July release date, they (the Wachowskis) were just not going to make it on time,” adding “a lot of the issue for us was getting it ready for the international release, since the foreign territories need additional time.”

With the date change for Jupiter Ascending, Warner Bros. has pulled Run All Night, starring Liam Neeson and Joel Kinnamon, from that date, and will open that film at a later date in 2015.

With its new release date, Jupiter Ascending will now be going up against Mortdecai, starring Johnny Depp, and Seventh Son, starring Jeff Bridges.

Andy and Lana Wachowski also wrote Jupiter Ascending, which stars Mila Kunis and Channing Tatum.
