Jeep, the latest victim of faulty ignition switches, issues a recall

On Tuesday Chrysler group announced it would be recalling nearly 800000 Jeeps.

The problem is if the ignition key is bumped, by a knee for example, while the vehicle is in motion, the key could slip out of the run position and shut down the vehicle. This would disable the airbags, the power steering, and power assisted brakes, therefore it could lead to serious injury.

Chrysler and GM are both adamant no injuries have yet occurred due to this ever increasing series of recalls.

To date, Chrysler has recalled 1.7 million vehicles with this fault. The recalled vehicles are the Dodge Journey,  Dodge Caravan and Chrysler Town & Country, and Volkswagen Routan minivan. The afflicted model years are 2007-2010.

GM has recalled an astonishing 15 million+ vehicles.

The latest batch of recalls are the 2005-2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee and 2006-2007 Jeep Commander.

What is your opinion of this ever expanding safety issue?
