It’s An Amazon Kindle Fire On Steroids! New Kindle Fire HDX Launched

The new Kindle Fire HDXAmazon has just launched two new beefed up versions of their Amazon Kindle Fire tablet.

The new tablets have triple the processing power of previous Kindle Fires, according to Amazon: 2.2 GHz quad core processors on each.

They also have double the RAM of previous Kindle Fire models, and include the latest graphics engine.

Amazon also says the new tablets have “100% sRGB color accuracy, improved brightness, and dynamic image contrast”. Pixel density is “up to 339 PPI.”

To top it off, Amazon claims they have up to 11 hours of battery life… 17 hours if you’re using the tablet for reading.

The new models are being called the Kindle Fire HDX. The larger model is 8.9″, the smaller one 7″.

In a letter posted on Amazon’s home page, Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos said “Even the largest new Kindle Fire—the 8.9″—is startlingly light. We re-imagined our design from scratch, with a new magnesium unibody and molded glass-nylon alloy. At just 13.2 ounces, it’s 34% lighter than the previous generation.”

Now… here’s something really different about these tablets. According to Amazon, they will feature a “Mayday” button.

With a press of the Mayday button, Amazon says an expert will appear on the screen and “can co-pilot you through any feature by drawing on your screen, walking you through how to do something yourself, or doing it for you—whatever works best.”

They say the Mayday service will be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days of the year (betcha Christmas morning will be really busy!).

It’s unclear from Amazon’s description, so far, if there will be an actual live person on the other end or if this is some kind of automated system.

Along with the announcement of the new Kindle Fire HDX, Amazon also mentioned they have a new Kindle Fire HD available with “the same display quality and processing speed of last year’s high-end models and [it] comes in at the breakthrough price point of only $139.”

The price of the 8.9″ Kindle Fire HDX will start at $379.

The 7″ Kendall Fire HDX price will start at $229.

We’ll have more on these new Kindle Fires as the details come out. Be sure to follow me by email for all the latest.

What do you think of Amazon getting into the full-powered tablet market? Are you interested in getting one?
