iPhone 6 – Choosing the Right Case, Color and Capacity

iPhone 6 – Choosing the Right Case, Color and Capacity

Earlier this week, Apple announced the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Because the new iPhones hit the stores in less than a week, many potential customers are trying to decide which case, phone color and storage capacity to buy.

Cases

There are a lot of iPhone 6 cases to choose from, and there will continue to be more as time goes on. The upside to this is that most people’s iPhones will be unique. The downside is that finding the right case becomes an even greater challenge.

Because most iPhone cases serve the same basic function–to protect the iPhone from dings and scratches–choosing the “right” case is ultimately up to the customer. The style and design of the case has to appeal to them.

However, some people’s iPhones, for one reason or another, are particularly prone to being dropped or stepped on. In this case, there are a few cases that are built with durability in mind. Two popular brands of these types of cases are OtterBox and LifeProof.

Apple also makes a few cases for their iPhones. One option from Apple is the basic silicone case, which covers the back and sides of the iPhone. The silicone case comes in black, blue, pink, green, and (Product) Red color options.

Apple also offers a more “executive” style case, which also covers the back and sides of the iPhone, but is made out of leather. This case is available in black, midnight blue, olive brown, soft pink, and (Product) Red color options.

An easy way to browse through iPhone case options is to visit a local electronics store, such as Best Buy, where the case selection will be expansive, but not daunting.

Colors

Cases can be bought and replaced without too much fuss. However, the color of the iPhone itself is (more or less) permanent. For some, choosing the right color iPhone can cause a lot of anxiety.

Apple’s iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, like the iPhone 5S, come in three color options: Silver, Space Gray and Gold.

While, once again, the color is ultimately up to the consumer, there are a few factors to keep in mind when making a decision.

Silver is one of the most popular color options for the iPhone. It is an ideal choice because scratches are less visible on the silver metal. Additionally, the silver iPhone model has a white front, so smudging is less likely to be an issue.

The Space Gray option for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus is more likely to expose any scratches, and its black front is more likely to reveal smudges. However, the black front can also make activities like watching videos and movies more enjoyable because it blends with the screen quite seamlessly.

Gold iPhones will stand out in a crowd more than either of the other options. They are unmistakably iPhones, and this has the potential of making them theft-prone. On the other hand, some people are very proud of their Apple devices and want to be able to show them off.

Capacity

New to the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, costumers can now choose 128GB models, priced at $399 and $499, respectively. This is a significant upgrade from the previous 64GB high-end model.

The smallest storage-capacity option for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus is 16GB, priced at $199 and $299, respectively. However, Apple no longer offers a 32GB option, which means the upgrade to 64GB on the new iPhones is only an additional $100 when bought with a new 2-year contract.

iOS 8, Apple’s next mobile OS update coming out September 17th, with introduce iCloud storage, which will allow users to store data in the cloud, rather than directly on their devices. This means that some media, such as photos, won’t have to take up extra space on the iPhone’s hard drive. Therefore, a more expensive iPhone will more storage may be unnecessary for some users.
