The third installment of the Insidious horror franchise will arrive in theaters April 3, 2015.
Insidious: Chapter 3 will be written by Leigh Whannell, writer of the first two Insidious films.
Acclaimed horror hit-maker Jason Blum will again serve as producer for the third film.
As of yet, it is uncertain which stars will return.
Both Insidious and Insidious: Chapter 2 starred Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, Lin Shaye and Barbara Hershey.
At the end of the second film, Elise (Shaye) visits a girl by the name of Allison who shares the same astral projection gift as Josh Lambert (Wilson).
During their meeting, Elise is able to see the spirit that is haunting the girl; however, the audience is left in the dark.
Could it be one of the evil spirits seen previously in the first two films, or possibly something even worse?
Either way, there is a good chance that the new storyline does not involve the Lambert family being visited by any more ghosts.
In a recent interview with IndieWire, Wilson expressed his contentment with what happened to his character at the end second film.
“Like, where else do you go with that guy? He’s been through the ringer, and I think the movie sets it up well at the end, to be honest with you. And that’s great, that’s how it should end.”
The third film may also have to proceed without Insidious director James Wan.
After directing horror films for the past ten years, Wan has reportedly expressed interest in moving away from the genre.
Wan also directed the highly successful 2013 horror film The Conjuring, which also starred Wilson.
Wan is currently filming Fast & Furious 7, due in theaters July 2014.
