Hyundai Accent Most APEAL-ing Small Car

The 2014 Hyundai Accent was the highest-ranked small car in J.D. Power’s Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) study.

The APEAL study uses a 1,000 point scale and scores owners’ assessments of the design, content, layout and performance of their new vehicle – essentially how happy customers are living with their purchase.

In the tightest category in the study, the midsize car segment, the 2014 Hyundai Sonata (819) placed third, just two points behind winner, the 2014 Mazda6 (821). The Hyundai Veloster finished second in the compact sporty car segment.

Hyundai also recently ranked highest in non-premium brands in the J.D. Power 2014 Initial Quality Study (IQS). Amongst all brands, Hyundai improved five spots to rank 13th overall and the Genesis, Elantra, and again, the Accent, all received awards in their respective segments.

These achievements mark the first time a nameplate ranked highest among non-premium brands in both APEAL and IQS in the same year.

“We are so pleased to see the recognition that Accent has received in this year’s J.D. Power APEAL study. And it’s especially gratifying coming on the heels of our best ever IQS showing just one month ago,” said Mike O’Brien, vice president, corporate and product planning, Hyundai Motor America.

What do you think about Hyundai’s achievements? Will you consider purchasing one in the near future?
