Here’s Our Top 5 Deals For The Wii U & Wii U Games

5 Best Deals for the Will UIn the penultimate entry into our “Bargains for Gamers” series, we will finally be covering the Nintendo Wii U.

Recent sales figures of Nintendo’s somewhat quirky, and definitely controversial, ingress into the console market has revealed that the Wii U is, and has been, struggling to gain market acceptance.

When a company is in such a desperate state, consumers will surely be on the receiving end of some fantastic deals.

After hours of sniffing around, here are our top 5 deals for Wii U owners (all 10 of you).

1) Buy 2 Games Get 2 Free

Best Buy, the American based retailing giant, is now offering a buy 2 get 2 free sale on Wii U games.

Best Buy shoppers can now pick up to 4 games from a roster of over 50 titles and will only have to pay for 2 of them (the 2 most expensive ones). Admittedly, the list consists primarily of shovelware titles (like ‘The Smurfs 2’ and ‘funky Barn’) but there are actually a few quality games available for purchase too.

2) Free Game Plus $50 off Wii U

In a true act of desperation, Nintendo announced that they will be cutting the selling price of their console by $50 for all retail partners. They will also be including a copy of The Legend of Zelda : Wind Waker HD bundled in with the system.

In the  press release announcing the price cut, Nintendo made sure to clarify that the discount (and bundle) will only be affecting the Wii U Deluxe set while the cheaper version of the Wii,  the Basic Set, will still be retailing for $299.

The change is set to take effect on the 20th of September, 2013.

 3) Amazon’s Crazy Wii U Game Sale

Due to sales of the Wii U being considerably lower than the already grim market forecasts, big electronics retailers have been forced to slash prices on  a variety of Wii U related products.

Amazon isn’t immune to this phenomena. While browsing through their Wii U catalog, to my surprise, I noticed that they have a plethora of titles being sold at bargain bin prices.

The majority of the games are being sold for less than $20 despite originally retailing for more than twice that ($60).

Some of the games on sale are relatively new releases such as “FIFA Soccer 13” ($16.99), “Assassin’s Creed III” ($19.56), “New Super Luigi 2” ($29.99) and  “Mass Effect 3”. Don’t believe me? Head on over to Amazon and check it out for yourself.

4) Free Wii U Remote And Game Pad

With a purchase of “Wii Party U”, the yet to be released Mario Party-esque multiplayer title, gamers will get a free Wii U remote and a Gamepad stand included in the purchase price ($60).

Wii party U is set to be released on the 25th of October (2013).

5) Get A Wii U For $199 (Canada Only)

This particular bargain is specifically for our Canadian neighbors (We haven’t forgotten you!).

Since the 2nd of August, Walmart Canada has discounted the Basic version of the Wii U by $100 (Canadian). The console is now retailing for $199 at all Canadian Walmarts, making the cost of the console just $10 more than the original Wii.

If you are a Canadian citizen, and are even the slightest bit interested in what the Wii (U) has to offer, there is no reason (okay maybe a few reasons) why you should not jump at this offer.

There is only one more installment left in our “Bargains for Gamers” series. Stay tuned for the top 5 deals for PC owners.
