Google Producing 3D Tablet

Google will be producing a 3D tablet with the ability to take 3D pictures. 4000 prototypes will be ready for testing by the end of the month.

The new tablet will feature a 7 inch screen, two back cameras, infrared depth sensors and advanced software that will allow people to “capture precise three-dimensional images of objects,” according to a Wall Street Journal report.

This new tablet is from Google’s Project Tango, their Advanced Technology and Projects (ATAP) group, an acquirement of the Motorola Mobility purchase earlier in the year.

The main objective of Project Tango is to provide smartphones the capability to create impressive virtual experiences and realistic 3D mapping as the user move its gadget through the real world, although the sky is the limit with other applications.

Technologies developed under Project Tango could be used to create more immersive 3D games; step-by-step directions in buildings, malls and other facilities; and indoor navigation for the visually-impaired.

There is no word yet on possible release dates or pricing.
