Get Inside a Volvo Using Cardboard

Volvo is giving away branded Google Cardboards to allow perspective customers a look around the interior of their new XC90.

Google Cardboard was announced at this year’s Google I/O. While many dismissed it as a gimmick, it converts many Android phones into fully functioning virtual reality headset using cheap, common materials.

Now, Volvo is using it as a marketing tool. The paper goggles work with an app, Volvo Reality, which puts you in the driver’s seat of their newest, luxury SUV.

Through several “episodes,” you can experience what it is like owning the XC90 in different environments and during different times of day. You can look 360 degrees around the cabin and it is apparently quite immersive.

Unfortunately, my device is one of the few Android phones incompatible with the app, so I can’t offer any first-hand reviews.

If you are able to give it a try, let us know what you think. Does it make you want to test drive a real Volvo XC90?
