Free Prescription Medications Available At Publix Now Include Amoldipine

Publix has added amoldipine to the list of free prescription medications they offer to consumers through their in-store pharmacies.

Amoldipine is a calcium channel blocker commonly used to treat high blood pressure and chest pain (angina).

Other medications included on their free prescriptions list include the ACE inhibitor lisinopril, used in the treatment of high blood pressure, certain heart conditions, diabetes, and certain chronic kidney conditions; and metformin, used to help patients with type 2 diabetes manage their blood sugar levels.

Also available are the antibiotics: Amoxicillin, Ampicillin, Sulfamethoxazole/Trimethoprim (SMZ-TMP), Ciprofloxacin (excluding Ciprofloxacin XR), and Penicillin VK.

Surprisingly, to a skeptical shopper, the prescription medicines are truly free.

I first learned about the program through my doctor. When he told me I could pick up my prescription free at Publix, I nodded and said “okay.” But I suspected that there was more to it.

But when I got to Publix and told them my doctor said it would be free, they said “yep”.

I asked “how’s that work?” The pharmacy tech just shrugged her shoulders and said “just does.”

At the cash register it proved true. It rung up to $0.00.

Dwaine Stevens, Publix’s media and community relations manager for the Jacksonville division, confirmed my experience. Asked if there were any membership, subscription, or income requirements normally required for the free prescriptions, his answer was simple; “no, no, no”. All that’s required is “a valid prescription from the customer’s physician”.

Unfortunately, Publix does not have an online pharmacy or any mail order options. According to Stevens, one can only get the free meds by “Calling their Publix pharmacy or visiting their neighborhood Publix”.

So there you have it.
