Free iPhone 5S With ‘Test Drive’ from T-Mobile

Yesterday, T-Mobile introduced a program called ‘Test Drive’, through which the carrier will give a “free” iPhone 5S to any prospective customer who signs up to try out their service, free of charge, for seven days.

Essentially, anyone can take part in the Test Drive program by signing up through the T-Mobile website. A $699.99 (plus tax) hold will then be placed on their credit or debit card. Within a few days, the customer receives an iPhone 5S in the mail fully-activated with T-Mobile’s LTE cellular network.

At the end of seven days, the user can return the iPhone to any T-Mobile store and their credit or debit card hold will be lifted. If a user fails to return the device, T-Mobile will charge his or her account the full price of the phone. Or, if the phone is in some way damaged, a $100 damage fee will be charged.

According to T-Mobile CEO John Legere, Test Drive is designed to increase the carrier’s customer base by changing the public’s current perception of its service. As of now, T-Mobile is not considered one of the “big-three” wireless providers (i.e. AT&T, Verizon and Sprint).

T-Mobile also announced that its current customers can stream Spotify, iTunes Radio, Rdio and Pandora without any impact to their monthly data limits. Google Music and Beats Music may be included in this deal at a later date.

The Test Drive program from T-Mobile will be available starting this Monday, June 23rd. Again, those interested can sign up via the carrier’s website.
