Ford Explorer is poised for its best sales ever in 2015

Last month the Ford Explorer sold more than 20000 units. This is the first time in nearly a decade sales have been so strong.

Later this month, Ford hopes to maintain this upward sales trend with the release of the XLT model.

This model will offer an optional appearance package. The package comes with 20 inch machined aluminum rims, painted grille and mirror caps, leather trimmed heated front seats, “Explorer” hood badge and body color door handles.

The list of available options continues with a tow package, enabling you to pull up to 5ooo lbs; a driver connect package, with voice operation, an 8 inch touch-screen, two USB ports and SD-card reader; and a blind spot information system, which uses radar in the rear quarter panel to monitor and alert you to vehicles entering your blind-spot or when backing out of a spot it can warn of approaching vehicles.

Standard options for the XLT include; My Ford Sync, 18 inch painted aluminum wheels, leather wrapped steering wheel that includes audio and cruise controls, reverse sensing system, 6 way power heated driver and front passenger seats, Sirius XM satellite radio, up graded brakes, Trailer sway control, traction and roll stability control, hill start assist, rear passenger auxiliary climate controls and finally, a cap-less fuel filler.

Moving all these options is the standard 3.5L V6, producing 290 hp and 255 lb-ft torque. There is an optional 2L Ecoboost 4 cyl, which puts out 240 hp and 270 lb-ft torque. The latter offers impressive best in class fuel economy estimated at 28 mpg. To achieve this performance the smaller engine uses direct injection, turbo charging and variable cam timing. Also optional is the Intelligent 4-wheel drive system and hill descent assist.

It would seem then that Ford has aimed this SUV at everyone, especially the coveted 18-34 year old market. Since 2009 Ford’s share in this demographic is up 72%, more than twice the industry pace.

By offering comfort, utility and a vast array of available layouts, the Ford Explorer looks poised to take a serious bite out of the SUV market. Will you be adding one to driveway?
