Facebook Just Purchased Oculus VR for $2 Billion

In yet another huge buyout, Facebook has announced that it will be purchasing the virtual reality company, Oculus, in both cash and stock for $2 billion.

Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, in a statement said, ” Our mission is to make the world more open and connected. For the past few years, this has mostly meant building mobile apps that help you share with the people you care about. We have a lot more to do on mobile, but at this point we feel we’re in a position where we can start focusing on what platforms will come next to enable even more useful, entertaining and personal experiences. This is where Oculus comes in.”

Mark went on to explain the role that virtual reality technology is going to play and the possibility it opens up for new kinds of experiences.

One area he quoted is in the immersive gaming world where many developers have shown a lot of interest.  Games however are just a start of what Facebook intends to do with Oculus. Oculus will open up new communication channels. What was once a dream and the stuff of science fiction will become reality.

Mark ended his statement by saying that the future is coming and that Facebook is looking forward to working with the Oculus team and bringing this future to the world.
