EA Trying To Put Your Hologram Inside Video Games

Andrew Wilson, EA CEO appointed in September 2013, recently highlighted the plans that the company has for enhancing virtual reality experiences for gamers. However, nothing was said about a potential partnership with Oculus Rift, although it is possible in the future.

Wilson’s statement:

The thing I challenge my team to right now is, ‘Listen, there’s clearly a desire to add a modality of play to the three we’re currently focused on

For those that are not aware, the 3 modalities are:

  • Lean In – PC gaming experience through RPGs and RTSs
  • Lean Back – A focus on the living room
  • Lean Over – Over mobile devices

VR devices are currently seen as a way to offer the fourth modality. It is possible through the VR device from Sony or through Oculus Rift. However, there are also hints to “some hologram that evolves out of your living room floor.”

While there is still time that has to pass, the idea of putting a hologram inside a video game did bring in reactions from gamers. For instance, on Dual Shockers a comment read:

VR = The end of video gaming. We had better hope we never get to this stage.

Do you think the same? Is VR or a hologram inside a video game the end of gaming as we know it? Also, is that really a bad thing? We would love to hear from you below.
