Drop Dead Diva, Episode 4 – Now Things Get Serious

Grayson confesses his love to Jane in episode 4 of Drop Dead Diva.
Grayson confesses his love to Jane in episode 4 of Drop Dead Diva.

In episode 4 of Lifetime’s Drop Dead Diva season 5, the show gets to the bottom of some long-running plot issues. Namely, the possible relationship between Grayson (Jackson Hurst) and Jane (Brooke Elliot).

Not to mention, Jane has to work with ex-fiance Owen (Lex Medlin) on a case, even though she’s been avoiding him for weeks.

And in a surprising turn of events, Stacy (April Bowlby) decides she wants to have a baby on her own.

The writers must have had some extra caffeine this week.

The tensions have been really awkward between Owen and Jane since they’ve been working together, so she has been carefully planning when she can arrive and leave her office so she doesn’t run into him. She has been scurrying from behind plants and into her office, only to find him sitting on her couch.

They work pretty well together, despite some differences. Jane likes to encourage her clients and be a super optimistic lawyer, while Owen is more no-nonsense and uses his sway from being a former judge to get them some advantages.

But they win their case, helping a boy get into college. And by the end of the episode, they come into the office, laughing, and looking like maybe there’s a future there for friendship, or maybe more.

The only problem is Owen uses any opportunity possible to make snide comments about what Jane did to him. By the end of the episode, she asks if he can just forgive her or what she can do to make it better. Owen doesn’t let her off the hook. He said that it’s not fair for him to just forgive her so she can stop feeling guilty, because he will still have a broken heart.

I don’t like how harsh he has been with her, but on the other hand, I feel bad for him when he opens up like that.

Then, Owen asks if she had just been in the moment when she kissed Grayson before their wedding, or if she had had feelings for him the entire time she was with Owen.

Because Jane couldn’t explain the whole situation–that she used to be in love with Grayson when she was Deb, an aspiring model who died and came back to life in Jane’s body–she stayed silent, and Owen left, hurt.

If Jane really wants Owen back, she could tell him the truth, and hope he doesn’t think she’s totally insane. But knowing how sensible he seems to be, it’s hard to see that he would believe her. And maybe she doesn’t want to get back together with him.

Grayson, on the other hand, knows what he wants, and he wants Jane. He shows up at her apartment and sets up candles and dinner for when she comes home. He confesses that he loves her, everything about her, and he can’t imagine his life without her. This is the type of confession that any girl would dream of, especially Jane, who has loved Grayson since before she was Jane.

But she tells him that he has to go, even though she can’t truthfully tell him there isn’t any real love between them. Why? I think it’s because she feels like she has to move on with her life, and not stay stuck on Grayson. Owen is great for her, and a new start for her new self. If he ever forgives her.

I say that, but when Grayson leaves her house, eyes watering, I just want to give him a hug and tell Jane she’s crazy to let him go.

And speaking of crazy decisions, Stacy decides randomly in this episode that she wants to have a baby even though she’s still young and very single. It’s not insane that a woman would want to have a baby, but to sign up to be a single mother is a big commitment. For a girl who sold a business because she wanted to have more of a life, maybe a baby isn’t the best next decision.

Plus, this is kind of out of left field from the writers. Stacy wants to be a model and an actress. Sure, I’m sure she would love to be a mother some day, but it seemed like a random twist the writers threw in. I love babies, but I hope she doesn’t go through with it.

What do you think? Let me know in the comments!
