Disneyland Measles Outbreak Spreads; Arizona On High Alert

The measles has spread to Arizona.

In response to rising cases of measles exposure, many of them at California’s Disneyland park, Arizona health officials have stated that this is “a critical point in this outbreak.”

According to a blog post written Wednesday by Will Humble, director of Arizona Department of Health Services, a woman in Maricopa County, Arizona has developed measles after contact with a family who had recently visited Disneyland.

Over 195 children may have been exposed so far in Maricopa County.

Maricopa County is the seat of Glendale, where the 2015 Superbowl is being held tomorrow.

Humble states that the public health system is doing everything they can to prevent further exposures, however, “if we miss any potential cases…we could be in for a long and protracted outbreak.”

All of which begs the question: Is Disneyland safe?

It is important to remember that, although many exposures have been linked to Disneyland, the outbreak did not originate there.

A Disneyland spokesperson has told News For Shoppers that there is “no current, ongoing problem with measles in Disneyland as the incubation period has passed.” A measles outbreak can potentially occur in any place with large numbers of people, especially one with international travelers present.

Our source states, “It is absolutely safe to visit these places, including the Disneyland Resort, if you are vaccinated.”
