David Mitchell’s New Book “The Bone Clocks” Arriving in September

Since David Mitchell’s new book The Bone Clocks is arriving in a month (September 7) here’s a breakdown of this postmodern writer’s previous works and where the new book will fit in.

Ghostwritten: Mitchell’s first work, it follows nine different characters and shows the connections between their lives. Settings range from present-day England to China and Japan to a radio station in the future.

number9dream: His follow up, it centers around one boy and his search to find his father. Each chapter has sequences that interject within the story, dreams, short stories, fantasies, anything.

Cloud Atlas: Building off of Ghostwritten, this book presents the first half of one character’s story, which is then interrupted by the next. This continues until the sixth story, and then the endings come in reverse order.

Black Swan Green: Branching off a bit, this is a coming-of-age story about a boy in England in the 1980s.

The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet: Another big change for Mitchell, this is historical fiction about a clerk in Japan in the late 18th century.

The Bone Clocks: What has been revealed is that the book follows Holly Sykes, a runaway who attracts psychic powers affecting and connecting her family and several other characters.

Looks like Mitchell is finally returning to the postmodern style that made Ghostwritten and Cloud Atlas successes!

I’m looking forward to what The Bone Clocks brings, how about you? Leave your comments below!
