Continental is recalling close to 4,000 passenger vehicle tires, the company announced today.
Continental ContiProContact P205/65 R15 95T XL, or Extra Load, tires are being recalled because tread separation may occur.
The safety recall also notes: “Affected tires may exhibit localized tread wear, excessive vibration, noise and/or bulging in the tread area.”
The company said it hasn’t received any reports of injuries or accidents related to the tires thus far and has issued a voluntary recall. Continental notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration of the recall yesterday.
Tires produced for use in the United States are required to have a Department of Transportation (DOT) stamp with a serial number and date on the sidewall, from which consumers can determine if their tires are part of the recall or not.
Recalled Continental tires have a DOT code of VY UR 471B 0615.
According to Continental, “Only the production DOT week 0615 is affected.”
Continental is also working with tire distributors in an attempt to contact consumers who purchased the tires.
Customers who own the recalled tires can receive replacements at no charge by calling Continental at 1-888-799-2168 or emailing email@example.com.
