Boston, My New Favorite City

Boston, My New Favorite City

I just came back from Boston, Massachusetts for a girls’ getaway with friends.

Not only is it a great American city deep in history, it’s a great place for a weekend getaway. From food to history, it has something for everyone.

The essential part about Boston is its role in American history.

I went on the Black Freedom Trail, which highlights the area of Beacon Hill and its part in the anti-slavery movement.

During this time, Beacon Hill was predominantly Black area, where the first school for Black children was built.

My favorite segment was on Lewis Hayden, who was known for having the safest safe house in the Underground Railroad. Hayden was willing to defend his property against anyone trying to accuse him of housing slaves. The tour ends at the African Meeting House.  The tour is an hour long, so wear comfortable shoes and bring a bottle of water for climbing the hills.

After the tour, dinner was at Riccardo’s in the North End section of Boston. This is one of the  many Italian restaurants in the area. The  menu  includes veal, steak and seafood. I enjoyed my linguini with shrimp, scallops and spicy Marinara sauce.  The ambiance is comfortable with candlelight and reservations are not needed.

For a night cap, we headed to Daryl’s Corner Bar and Kitchen in Roxbury. This is for the grown and sexy, urban crowd. If you like hip-hop, R&B, reggae and good drinks, this place is for you.

What are some of your favorite spots in Boston?
