BMW 6 Series: One Series, Multiple Personalities

The first thing you notice when looking at the new 6 Series line-up, is the elegantly powerful shape.

The BMW kidney grille is now only 9 bars strong , yet it has gained visual appeal.

The purpose behind loosing one bar was not aesthetic, but functional.

The more powerful engines required more air for cooling.

The new front apron features a single lower air-intake, that seems to draw attention to the width of the car, and adds to the sporty feel of the new styling.

The standard Full-LED headlights have been newly developed, but remain true to the twin round headlight format BMW is known for.

At the back, the flared wheel arches and horizontal lines, give the impression of surefooted handling.

The interiors have received  attention also.

The driver focused interior is luxurious and comes with new surfaces and optional two color leather trim.

The use of LED lighting in the foot wells, glove box, and door exits lend an air of sophistication.

Customers can choose between Nappa or Dakota leather, in Ivory White/Black or Cognac/Black combinations.

The high-gloss black center console is a well executed unit containing the controls for the audio and AC systems as well as the automatic climate control display.

The iDrive control display, stands alone with a frameless glass cover and chrome surround, giving a modern ambiance.

The controller for the iDrive operating system, uses a touch-sensitive surface which allows the inputting of characters.

Customers can enhance the range of in-car entertainment, by choosing options such as the Harman Kardon HiFi system and the Bang & Olufsen high-end surround-sound system.

The 6 Series comes in three body styles, a 2 door coupe, a 2-door convertible and a 4-door coupe.

Once the body type is chosen, the choice of Badge, either 640 or 650, is determined by engine selection.

The range offers three powerful engines; an inline 6 producing 315 hp, a V8 making 445 hp, and the fantastic M version which harnesses a 560 hp, turbo-charged 4.4L V8 weapon. This is my choice, as it propels the largish car to 60 mph ( 100 km/h ) in 4.2 seconds.

All 6 Series models can be had with BMW xDrive, AWD systems.

The M versions use a 7 speed double clutch automatic transmission, with paddle shifting ability, when the mood strikes.

With the new body, increased power and BMW ambiance, the latest 6 Series line-up offers something for every driving enthusiast.
