“Bad Words” & “The Raid 2” Top Week’s Blu-Ray Releases

This week’s new Blu-Ray releases include comedy, action, horror, and sex.

Bad Words – Jason Batman stars in and makes his directorial debut with this comedy about an adult who uses a loophole to enter a children’s spelling bee.

Critics were generally positive about Bad Words, giving it a 64% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Bonus features include audio commentary from Bateman, an 11-minute making-of feature, and seven deleted/extended scenes.

The Raid 2 – The acclaimed Indonesian action film gets a sequel.

Following the events of the first movie, a police officer goes undercover to bring down a crime syndicate and expose police corruption.

Both Raid movies are marked by inventive, hyper-stylized action far different from what you normally see in Hollywood fare, which makes them perfect viewing for those seeking something fresh.

Bonus features are audio commentary from director Gareth Evans, 43 minutes of behind-the scenes material, a 45-minute Q&A session with the filmmakers, a deleted scene, and the theatrical trailer.

Nymphomaniac Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 – Lars Von Trier’s four-hour epic (released in two parts in the United States) shocked the Cannes Film Festival when it premiered there.

Charlotte Gainsbourg plays a sexually damaged woman who confesses her erotic escapades to a stranger, played by Stellan Skarsgard. Shia LaBeouf also stars as one of Gainsbourg’s lovers.

Provocative and explicit, Nymphomaniac is not for the faint of heart. However, it does take a serious attitude toward its subject, attempting to explore the perils of abusing one’s sexuality. Bonus features include a look at the movie’s production and director, as well as the sexual themes involved.

Lake Placid – The 1999 killer crocodile chiller with a wicked sense of humor comes to Blu-Ray in an extras-laden package. Bill Pullman, Bridget Fonda, Oliver Platt, and Betty White star.

On the gorgeously remastered Blu-Ray, you will find a brand-new retrospective documentary about the film, a vintage making-of feature, a behind-the-scenes still gallery, test footage of the animatronic crocodile, the theatrical trailer, and some TV spots.

The above titles will be available for purchase wherever DVDs and Blu-Rays are sold.
