AT&T’s ZTE Mobley Available Sept. 11

Starting September 11, people with an older car can now have in-vehicle Wi-Fi using AT&T’s ZTE Mobley.

“The ZTE Mobley is our first Wi-Fi plug-in for the car. It’s great for everyone – families, entertainment enthusiasts and professionals,” said Chris Penrose, senior vice president, Internet of Things (IoT), AT&T Mobility. “It allows multiple Wi-Fi-capable devices to connect to AT&T’s 4G LTE network, making it perfect for anyone on-the-go.”

The ZTE Mobley plugs into a vehicle’s OBD II (on-board diagnostics) port and works with most vehicles 1996 and newer. The device is powered by the vehicle and turns off when the vehicle is off to avoid draining the battery.

Available for $0 with a two-year agreement, or $100 with no commitment, the ZTE Mobley can also be added to the Mobile Share Value plan for an additional access charge of $10 a month or connected with DataConnect plan with monthly charges of $20 for 1GB or $30 for 3GB.

The AT&T ZTE Mobley is not with public concerns however.

Everyday there seems to be a new headline regarding hackers gaining control of a car’s internal systems, and most enter through the OBD II port.

Also, people are becoming increasingly protective of their privacy and some question what information AT&T can obtain through the ZTE Mobley.

It must be pointed out, there is no proof that AT&T ZTE Mobley makes your vehicle any more vulnerable or that it can return information to AT&T, but these are a couple of concerns that may affect sales.

What do you think about the AT&T ZTE Mobley? Do you share these concerns? Will you be putting one in your vehicle?

It's Nice To Share!
