ASUS Zenwatch Will Cost Less Than $200, To Be Revealed 9/3

Update: ASUS has cleared up price misconceptions in regards to the ZenWatch. The watch will cost €199 ($260 USD) at launch.

As reported by Focus Taiwan, ASUS has confirmed that it will unveil its new Android smartwatch, called “ZenWatch,” this Wednesday, September 3rd.

The news was confirmed by ASUS’ own CEO Jerry Shen, who also reported that the unveiling will occur just ahead of IFA, a large tech trade show that’s being hosted in Berlin beginning this Friday.

The press release included a few details on the new smartwatch. They include a voice recognition feature (separate from the one that comes natively with any Android device), a single watch size and the ability to use the watch with or without a compatible Android phone.

Its most intriguing feature, however, happens to be its price, which falls underneath the $200 range, making it one of the cheapest smartwatches on the market. This will certainly allow ASUS to cook up a little competition for the Samsung Galaxy Gear and LG G watches.

ASUS has stated that the watch’s release date for the U.S. and additional markets will occur sometime in October, and it has also released a teaser video and a few teaser sketches to coincide with this announcement.

From the looks of the video, the watch will feature a brushed aluminum finish in a few spots and a square or even rectangular screen design.

Stay tuned for more updates.
