Arrow: Sara

Arrow: Sara

Emotions ran high during last night’s episode of Arrow.

“There’s been a death in the family.”

All were grieving the death of the Canary herself, Sara Lance (Caity Lotz).  Not knowing where else to go, Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy) brought her sister’s body to the Arrow’s underground hideout.  Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) comforted Laurel.

Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards) took the news fairly hard.  Sara served as a role model for her.  Felicity began to reevaluate things: “If there’s one thing that today has taught me is that life is precious,” she told Oliver.  “And I want so much more in mine than this.”  She then confronted elitist Ray Palmer (Brandon Routh) and accepted his job offer.

Oliver struggled with the death as well, but refused to grieve.  “If I grieve, no one else gets to,” he told Felicity.   He made several attempts to call his sister, Thea Queen (Willa Holland), to no avail.   He realized that one day, he would meet his fate.  “I don’t want to die down here,” Oliver confessed.

Tommy Merlyn (Colin Donnell) made a brief appearance within the flashback portion of the episode.  He was in search of Oliver after he logged into his email address from Hong Kong.  In order to save his life, Oliver kidnapped him and convinced him that he was, in fact, dead.  Tommy returned to the states unharmed.

A funeral in honor of Sara.  Laurel became angry due to the fact that Sara did not receive a fresh grave; they used the headstone from her disappearance at sea.  John Diggle (David Ramsey) reassured her that Sara would, in fact, be remembered.  He announced that his new daughter’s name is Sara in her memory.

Laurel, cuddling an old teddy bear that belonged to her sister, looked over the leather jacket given to her by Sara.  The anticipation among fans for Laurel to take over the role as Black Canary is immense.

The episode ended with Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman) training Thea.  Their relationship obviously evolved.  After a compliment, Thea thanked Malcolm, calling him “Dad”.

Things are moving quickly within this season.  Every episode is a must-see.

Arrow airs Wednesdays at 8.7c on the CW.
