Anime Studio Responsible For Samurai Champloo Shuts Down

Manglobe, the animation studio that brought shows like “Samurai Champloo,” to life, has begun procedures to file for bankruptcy. Anime Biz reported that the company had been insolvent for some time, attempting to repay its debts, but failed to do so.

“Samurai Champloo,” released in 2002, was the studio’s first foray into animated television, and left an impact in viewers’ minds with the show’s blend of feudal Japanese culture plus hip-hop music and style. They would go on to create other critically acclaimed shows and movies, such as “Ergo Proxy,” “Dante’s Inferno: An Animated Epic,” and their latest and last completed project, “Gangsta.”

The fate of the studio’s latest project, “Genocidal Organ,” which is slated for a November 13th theatrical opening, is unclear as of this writing. The possibility exists of either the studio remaining open long enough to release the film, or that it is passed on to another studio. Should the latter occur, the release date would no doubt be pushed forward into the calendar year.
